L’Oréal USA will lay off 120 employees at its Kent distribution center and Redmond manufacturing facility.

The job reductions were announced through the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) act that requires companies with 100 or more employees to notify affected workers 60 days prior to closures and layoffs.

L’Oréal USA, based in New York, N.Y., is a subsidiary of the L’Oréal Group, headquartered in Paris, France. L’Oréal develops and manufactures hair care, hair color, skincare, color cosmetics and fragrances.

The company has 15 distribution facilities in six states and five manufacturing sites in five states. L’Oréal USA employs more than 10,000 across the nation.

Most of the layoffs are at the Redmond facility, according to an email from a spokeswoman for Clarisonic, which L’Oréal acquired in 2011, including the Kent and Redmond sites. Neither facility will close.

The cutbacks are because Clarisonic has decided to make a gradual transition to shift its production to external manufacturing partners, according to a company statement. Product innovation will remain a focus at the Redmond site.

“Affected employees have already been made aware of this news and will receive financial support and job placement resources, as well as the opportunity to apply for other positions within L’Oréal if in good standing,” according to the statement.
