Kent Police arrested a man and a woman for investigation of obstructing an officer after each struggled with officers responding to a dispute.

The incident started at about 9:46 a.m. on Aug. 8 with a report of a man and a woman possibly damaging vehicles in the parking lot of the Fred Meyer store, 10201 S.E. 240th St., according to the police report.

A man flagged down an officer heading to the store in connection with a man driving a white Chevrolet Impala northbound on 100th Avenue Southeast. That car matched the report of a vehicle in the Fred Meyer lot, so the officer followed the vehicle, which stopped near 100th Avenue Southeast and Southeast 247th Place.

The car had a broken passenger side window and the driver, who had moved over to the passenger seat, had dried blood on his lip, so officers ordered the man out of the vehicle. The man refused to get out. An officer drew a Taser and again ordered the man out of the car. Eventually, officers were able to pull the man from the car as he reportedly continued to struggle with police and yelled obscenities at them. Police handcuffed the man.

Meanwhile, a woman, who knew the man, showed up at the scene and yelled at police to stop struggling with the man. The man resisted being placed in the back of a patrol vehicle, and caused one officer to suffer a cut on his hand and another officer to suffer a cut on his arm and his eye glasses were damaged.

The man, 19, told police he argued with the woman, the mother of his 3-month-old child, about a relationship he had with another woman, also the mother of one of his children. He said he had slammed the door of the Impala during their dispute at the store parking lot.

Police arrested the woman after she refused to get off her cellphone when ordered by officers to drop the call. Officers handcuffed her. The woman declined to talk to officers about the dispute.

Man threatens roommate with knife

A man told police that a roommate punched him in the face and threatened him with a knife during a dispute at about 12:14 a.m. on Aug. 10 at a town home in the 23300 block of 60th Place South.

The two men argued about living arrangements. They had lived in the same house for about two months, according to the police report.

Police arrested the man for investigation of fourth-degree assault and obstructing an officer after he had fled from the scene. Officers saw the man jump from a second-floor balcony and run. An officer caught the man in the 23200 block of 63rd Avenue South after chasing him on foot for about 500 yards.

The man said he ran from officers because he had warrants for his arrest.

Driver runs red light, hits vehicle

Officers arrested a man for driving under the influence (DUI) and drug possession after he was involved in a traffic accident with another vehicle at about 8:57 p.m. on Aug. 8 at the intersection of 94th Avenue South and Southeast 240th Street.

The man, 19, reportedly drove a Dodge Charger that ran two red lights before colliding with another vehicle, according to the police report.

The driver told paramedics he had been drinking earlier in the night. An officer noticed the man had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. Police discovered a baggie of marijuana in the man’s pants pocket. Marijuana use is illegal for anyone younger than 21.

Police also cited the man for failure to provide proof of car insurance and disobeying a traffic signal. There were no serious injuries to the people in the other vehicle.

Brother punches brother

Police arrested a 20-year-old man for investigation of fourth-degree assault after he allegedly punched his brother during a dispute at about 7:06 a.m. at a house in the 28000 block of 122nd Place Southeast.

The brothers didn’t tell officers what the argument was about, according to the police report. The mother of the two men saw the incident. The brother who was arrested reportedly was visiting in Kent from his home in Spokane.
