The Portland Winterhawks defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 6-1 Saturday night at the Rose Garden in Portland.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Seattle (5-5-0-0) jumped out to a 1-0 lead 1:35 into the game. The T-Birds hemmed the Winterhawks in their end to start the game. Connor Honey’s forecheck caused a turnover and he got the puck to Connor Sanvido in the left circle. Sanvido lifted a backhand across the ice to Luke Lockhart in the right circle. Lockhart snapped the puck over Portland goalie Mac Carruth’s blocker for his sixth goal of the season.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Portland (8-3-1-0) tied the game 1-1 at 7:55 of the first on a goal from Dominic Turgeon. Chase De Leo and Troy Rutkowski had the assists on the goal that came in a four-on-four situation.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The Winterhawks took a 2-1 lead at 12:21 of the first when Taylor Peters scored. De Leo had the only assist on the goal.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Portland outshot Seattle 13-8 in the first period.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The Winterhawks extended the lead 3-1 by scoring a power-play goal with one second left in the second period. Troy Rutkowski got the goal off assists from Nic Petan and Peters.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The Winterhawks outshot the T-Birds 15-3 in the second period and led 28-11 in total shots after 40 minutes.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The Winterhawks scored three goals in the last four minutes of the third period to skate away with the game. De Leo scored at 16:32, Ty Rattie at 17:19 and Keegan Iverson at 18:27.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Portland outshot Seattle 43-23 in the game.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Seattle goalie Brandon Glover stopped 37 of 43 shots and his record is now 5-3-0-0.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Carruth made 22 saves on 23 shots and his record is now 3-0-0-0.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The T-Birds return home on Friday, Oct. 26, to take on the Tri-City Americans at 7:35 p.m. at ShoWare Center.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

T-Birds single game tickets for the 2012-13 season are available online at the T-Birds website and at the ShoWare Center box office. The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
