This marks the final week of toy collection for the Kent Fire Department’s 2013 Toys for Joy program.

People can drop off new, unwrapped toys at any Kent fire station through the end of this week. The Toys for Joy program accepts toys for all ages as well as monetary donations and non-perishable food.

The last gift wrapping party is at Fire Station 75, 15635 S.E. 272nd St., on Wednesday, Dec. 18, beginning at 6 p.m. The public is invited to help wrap more than 2,000 gifts that will be delivered to local food banks for distribution to needy families. Call 253-856-4485 for details.

The wrapped toys will be delivered to the Kent Food Bank at 8 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 20. A convoy of vehicles, including a semi-truck and trailer donated by USF Reddaway will leave Fire Station 75 at approximately 7:30 a.m. loaded with the wrapped gifts.

Once at the food bank, the toys will be unloaded and sorted by food bank staff for distribution later that morning.

Santa Claus will also be on hand to greet families and hand out candy canes.

The Toys for Joy program has been supporting needy families in the greater Kent area for more than 20 years. It is sponsored by the Kent Fire Department Regional Fire Authority, Kent Firefighters Local 1747 and the Kent Firefighters Foundation. The success of the program is also due to the generous contributions of the public and companies such as USF Reddaway and Door-to-Door Storage of Kent.
