Momentum is on the side of the Kentwood High girls basketball team.<\/p>\n
Behind their usual three-pronged attack of Kylie Huerta, Liz Mills and Courtney Johnson, the Conquerors dispatched Kentridge 66-22 Friday night at the ShoWare Center in the Les Schwab Kent Shootout.<\/p>\n
Mills delivered a team-high 16 points, Huerta added 15 and Johnson powered her way to 13.<\/p>\n
It was the eighth win in a row for the Conquerors (12-0, 13-3).<\/p>\n
\u201cI think we definitely have momentum right now,\u201d Huerta said. \u201cI think we\u2019re improved from last year. Our goal is to win state.\u201d<\/p>\n
As much was evident Friday night against the Chargers (2-11, 2-14). The Conquerors led from start to finish. Kentwood bolted out of the gate with a 14-6 first quarter, and extended the advantage to 31-14 by halftime. The lead grew to 53-17 by the end of the third quarter, when the Conquerors unloaded their bench.<\/p>\n
Playing at the ShoWare is invaluable, Huerta noted.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just a great place to play and it helps us get ready for state,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Sydney Dupuis and Marisa Carpenter led the Chargers with six points apiece.<\/p>\n
