The Portland Winterhawk<\/a>s defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds<\/a> 2-0 Saturday night at the Rose Garden in Portland in the two team’s annual New Year’s Eve game.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Since 1995 the T-Birds have played on New Year’s Eve in Portland. The T-Birds are 8-8-1-0 all time against Portland on New Year’s Eve.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Portland (23-11-2-1) went in front 1-0 with 10 seconds left in the second period when Ty Rattie scored his 37th goal of the season. Troy Rutkowski and Taylor Peters had the assists.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Brendan Leipsic scored a power-play goal at 1:51 of the third period to give the Winterhawks a 2-0 lead. Dillon Wagner and William Wrenn were credited with assists.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Portland outshot Seattle 48-18 in the game.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard stopped 46 of 48 shots and his record is now 16-15-0-1.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Portland goalie Mac Carruth made 18 saves to get the shutout. His record is now 23-10-1-0.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The next game for Seattle (16-18-0-1) is Wednesday, January 4, against the Everett Silvertips at 7:05pm at Comcast Arena in Everett. The team then travels to Kennewick to take on the Tri-City Americans at 7:05 at Toyota Center on Friday, January 6. The T-Birds are back at ShoWare Center on Saturday, January 7, to face the Spokane Chiefs at 7:05pm<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

T-Birds single game tickets for the 2011-12 season are available online at the T-Birds website<\/a> and at the ShoWare Center box office. The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
