Steve Dowell is getting his day on Friday, July 11 in Kent.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Mayor Suzette Cooke proclaimed Friday as Steve Dowell Day for his longtime community service.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
“I ask all Kent residents to join me in celebrating the legacy of community service provided by Steve Dowell to the residents of Kent,” Cooke said at the July 1 City Council meeting.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Dowell received the day for the following accomplishments, according to Cooke’s proclamation.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u2022 Owner and general manager of the Dowell Company in Kent, served for the past 18 years as a member of the City\u2019s Land Use & Planning Board and was the board\u2019s first chairman<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u2022 Served for six years (1986-1992) as a member of the Kent City Council<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u2022 Served for a period of 16 years on the city\u2019s Board of Adjustment prior to serving on the City Council<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u2022 A member of the Kent Chamber of Commerce for many years and served as one of its first presidents<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u2022 Instrumental in creating the Kent Rotary Club in 1958 and has been a member of the Rotary ever since, having served as its president on two separate occasions with a perfect attendance record for 56 years<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u2022 Upon graduation from Whitman College in 1948 in Walla Walla, Steve enlisted in the Marine Corps and served his country in the Korean War<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u2022 Married Jeannine, his high school sweetheart, in 1952 and together they raised three high-achieving children \u2013 one architect and two attorneys<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u2022 Has dedicated much of his adult life to serving his country as well as the Kent community, helping to make decisions that have shaped the Kent cityscape of today<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
