A general information meeting about starting a homeless shelter in Kent is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, April 19 at Kent United Methodist Church, 11010 S.E. 248th St.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
KentHOPE, which wants to help establish a day center and eventually an overnight shelter for the homeless, will oversee the meeting as it tries to find a new location for the shelter after the Kent City Council declined the use of the Kent Resource Center <\/a>as a day center\/shelter.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The next steps by KentHOPE include:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u2022 Searching for a site for a day center.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u2022 Widening our network of support by contacting and enlisting more local congregations, businesses, service providers and professional organizations.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u2022 Actively soliciting donations and planning a community fund raising event in the fall of 2012.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u2022 Our executive committee, which includes representatives from several congregations, the Interfaith Task Force on Homelessness and Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission, meets weekly in strategy sessions.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
