The bright lights shined on the Kentwood High boys basketball team Tuesday night in a nationally televised game against Oregon powerhouse Jefferson.<\/p>\n
In a game that featured two of the nation’s top-ranked recruits in Kentwood’s Josh Smith and Jefferson’s Terrence Jones, it was the Democrats who scratched out a narrow 42-39 win in a game that was shown live on ESPN2.<\/p>\n
Jones, the 13th ranked recruit in the nation, led the way with 20 points, four rebounds and four assists.<\/p>\n
Smith, a 6-9 UCLA-bound center, held his own in a low-scoring affair, delivering a team-high nine points, but adding a season-high nine blocks and 11 rebounds.<\/p>\n
Down 40-39 late in the fourth quarter, the Conquerors (9-5 in league, 9-9 overall) had a chance to go ahead, but couldn’t convert.<\/p>\n
Jason Boyce added eight points for Kentwood and Tre Tyler chipped in seven.<\/p>\n
