Prab Rai and Jeremy Schappert each found the puck Nov. 8 to help lead the Seattle Thunderbirds to a 4-1 win over the Chilliwack Bruins at Prospera Centre in Chilliwack.<\/p>\n
Chilliwack (8-10-1-3) took a 1-0 lead at 3:55 of the first period on a goal by Dylen McKinlay, Kevin Sundher and Ryan Howse had the assists.<\/p>\n
Seattle (5-12-1-3) tied the game at 9:28 of the first on a shorthanded goal by Prab Rai. Rai carried the puck down the right side of the ice and into the Chilliwack zone. At the right circle Rai cut to the center of the ice and beat Bruins goalie Lucas Gore with a quick wrist shot. Brendan Rouse had the only assist on the goal.<\/p>\n
The Bruins outshot the T-Birds 13-7 in the first period.<\/p>\n
Rai put the T-Birds in front 2-1 at 16:46 of the second period. Charles Wells fought for the puck along the left boards. Wells was able to get the puck to Jeremy Schappert at the left point. Schappert put a wrist shot on goal from the left point with Rai in front of Gore. Rai tipped Schappert’s shot past Gore for his second goal of the night.<\/p>\n
The T-Birds took a two-goal lead at 17:39 of the second period. Rouse caused a turnover at the Chilliwack blue line and brought the puck into the Chilliwack zone on the right side. Rouse skated through the right circle, used his body to shield the puck from a Bruins defender and put a backhand shot towards Gore. The Bruins goalie made the save but the puck rebounded to the slot and Sena Acolatse, who was trailing the play. Acolatse quickly snapped the puck past a sprawling Gore. Acolatse now has a three-game goal streak. Schappert also had an assist on the goal.<\/p>\n
Mark Friesen replaced Gore in the Chilliwack net after Seattle’s third goal. Gore made 17 saves on 20 shots and his record fell to 5-4-1-0.<\/p>\n
Seattle outshot Chilliwack 14-6 in the second period and led 21-19 in total shots after two periods.<\/p>\n
Schappert put the T-Birds in front 4-1 when he scored a power-play goal at 14:13 of the third period. Stefan Warg had the puck at the left point. Warg sent the puck down the boards to Rai at the face off circle hash marks along the boards. Rai centered the puck to Schappert in the high slot. Schappert put a quick snap shot on goal with Lindsay Nielsen screening Friesen and beat the goalie over the glove.<\/p>\n
Seattle outshot Chilliwack 7-6 in the third period and 27-24 in the game.<\/p>\n
Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard made 23 saves on 24 shots and his record is now 4-8-1-3.<\/p>\n
Friesen stopped six of seven shots in just over a period of play.<\/p>\n
The T-Birds next game is Nov. 8 against the Kamloops Blazers at the Interior Savings Centre at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
