Breaking a personal record in the 110-meter high hurdles, with a time of 14.09 seconds, wasn’t enough to get Kentridge High senior Tanner Conner the state title he’s after.

Gonzaga Prep’s Nick Johnson beat Conner by four-one-hundredths of a second to secure first place on Friday. Johnson edged out Conner in the race last year to win the state title.

Conner will try for state title in the 300 hurdles and long jump on Saturday, the final day of the state meet.
