Olvera graduates from basic military training<\/p>\n
Air Force Airman Stephen R. Olvera, a 2008 graduate of Kentlake High School, graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.<\/p>\n
Olvera completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline.<\/p>\n
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.<\/p>\n
He is the son of Carmen Olvera of Covington.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
McComick gets Army commission<\/p>\n
Luke A. McCormick, a 2005 graduate of Kentlake High School, has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army after successfully completing the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program and graduating with a bachelor\u2019s degree from Washington State University, Pullman.<\/p>\n
The new officer will be branched to a specific corps in the Army to serve on active duty or in the National Guard or Reserve. McCormick will attend an officer basic course relating to his or her particular military occupational specialty\/job. Afterward, he will complete advanced training by attending basic officer leadership courses for career progression purposes.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Newell completes ROTC leader-training course<\/p>\n
Kyle M. Newell, a 2008 graduate of Kentlake High School, has graduated from the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Leader\u2019s Training Course at Fort Knox, Ky.<\/p>\n
The four-week course is a leadership internship for cadets that can lead to the ultimate goal of becoming an Army officer. College students experience and examine the Army without incurring an obligation to serve in the Army or ROTC, and are eligible to receive two-year college scholarship offers and attend the Advanced ROTC Course at their college.<\/p>\n
Newell is a student at Central Washington University in Ellensburg.<\/p>\n
