With guns drawn, Kent Police broke out the driver’s window of a reported stolen vehicle with a baton to get a man with a felony warrant to surrender to officers at about 1 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot near the Heritage Bank in the 400 block of West James Street.

The 42-year-old Kent man was known to officers because of his history with the police, said Kent Police Cmdr. Jarod Kasner.

“When the suspect ignored the officers commands and kept the window rolled up, they broke the window with their baton in an attempt to gain control of the suspect, at which time he gave up and was taken into custody,” Kasner said.

Several officers were at the scene, at the vehicle and in perimeter spots to stop traffic.

The state Department of Corrections had issued an escape warrant for the man for a protection order violation.
