With all the noise about “same-sex” marriages, they should have lived during the Dust Bowl days down in Texas.

As a Dust Bowl baby, I grew up seeing most of it, but never will I forget the Old Rancher’s wedding. The depression was in full swing in the oil-boom town of Wink, Texas, and the Old Rancher had it all. He arranged for the most unique wedding and, as a child, I got to see it all.

The wedding, which took place between the airport in Rattlesnake Canyon and the ranch. The entire town of Wink was invited. The Old Rancher had made arrangements to “marry the moon.”

I even got to carry out refreshments for the main thing, that “refreshment” being “moonshine.” I never could figure out how they made the “shine” into liquid, but it was a great success. Of course, we had to have a stand in for the “moon.” A Western band played during the ceremony, which was crowded. I’ve wondered about the legality of it, but I never did see any offspring from the marriage itself. The Old Rancher never did hear any opposition to his “hitching” of the moon. I’m pushing 83 now, and I am wondering about the legality (of the marriage).
