Thank goodness for Glenn Harrison’s inquiry about church use of public school property (“Why can church use public school?” page 6, Dec. 2 Kent Reporter.)

There is nothing wrong with the schools renting for any use including commercial or community as long as the renter is paying market rates for the space and covering costs of utilities, custodial service, etc. It appears this is the case at Kentridge High School.

If not, the school board needs to investigate what is going on at the high school. Rentals can augment badly needed revenue for the school district.

Citizen-raised questions via media are absolutely needed in order to maintain the “wall of separation between church and state”.

This fundamental principle of American democracy requires extraordinary vigilance. Overeager evangelical Christians are always prone to try to weave religion onto public property and into public events.

Thank you Glen and Kent Reporter for reminding us to keep our guard up to repel assaults on the “wall of separation”.
