The race between Brenda Fincher and Toni Troutner for the Kent City Council stayed tight after more ballots were counted on Thursday night, although Fincher has started to pull away.

Fincher leads by 114 votes after earlier leads of 67, 49 and 82 votes. Fincher has 5,758 votes (50.39 percent) while Troutner has 5,644 votes (49.39 percent), as of 7 p.m. Thursday. Write-in votes are at 26 votes (.23 percent)

King County Elections is scheduled to release more results each weekday until the count is certified on Nov. 24.

The council appointed Fincher to her seat last year to replace Ken Sharp, who resigned after just two weeks in office. Two years remain on the term.

If the vote count gets closer, it might lead to a recount. Any office must be recounted by machine when the difference between two candidates is less than 2,000 votes and less than .50 percent, according to the King County Elections website.

The difference between Fincher and Troutner is 1 percent as of Thursday night.
