How long will it be before a large earthquake or other disaster hits the Puget Sound area? It is simply a matter oftime.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Fact: 911 systems will be overwhelmed by the number of calls for help and emergency responders will not be able to get to everyone due to the sheer volume of calls as well as damage to roadways and infrastructure.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

What can the pUblic do to prepare and to make them as self-sufficient as possible? Get the training that will help you help yourself during and after a disaster.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The Kent Fire Department’s Office of Emergency Management is now accepting registrations for their upcoming Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training program. The eight-week class begins March 7 and still has openings available for adults who want to learn about:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u2022 Disaster psychology
\u2022 Basic search and rescue
\u2022 Heavy lifting
\u2022 Hazardous situation recognition
\u2022 Disaster medical
\u2022 Fire extinguishment
\u2022 Other disaster safety topics<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Participants spend one evening per week learning from specially trained Kent firefighters on how to better protect themselves, their families, coworkers, and neighbors when a disaster strikes. This hands-on training is free and participants receive basic safety equipment to take home after the program is completed.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Join more than 1,000 people in the greater Kent area who have been CERT trained and get involved.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
