The Spokane Chiefs defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 8-2 Dec. 29 at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena in Spokane.<\/p>\n
The first shot of the game put Seattle (15-13-3-4) in front 1-0. Travis Toomey beat Spokane goalie James Reid over the glove at 2:19 to give the T-Birds the lead. Erik Bonsor and Burke Gallimore had assists on Toomey’s sixth goal of the year.<\/p>\n
Spokane (21-10-3-2) tied the game 1-1 at 18:28 of the first on a goal from Marek Kalus. Brady Brassart and Davis Vandane had the assists<\/p>\n
The Chiefs outshot the T-Birds 17-5 in the first period. In the last 8:36 of the first period Spokane was on the power play for six minutes.<\/p>\n
Steve Kuhn put the Chiefs in front 2-1 at 5:27 of the second period. Kenton Miller had the only assist on the goal.<\/p>\n
Spokane scored two goals in 1:01 in the middle of the second to take a 4-1 leads. Tyler Johnson scored at 11:24 on assists from Dominik Uher and Levko Koper. Tanner Mort scored at 12:25 with Kuhn and Miller getting assists.<\/p>\n
Johnson scored at 15:31 and 19:10 of the second to put the Chiefs in front 6-1. Uher had the assists on both goals while Koper had an assist on the goal in the last minute of the period.<\/p>\n
Spokane outshot Seattle 22-4 in the second period.<\/p>\n
Seattle replaced goalie Calvin Pickard with Michael Salmon to start the third period. Pickard stopped 33 of 39 shots and was credited with the loss. His record is now 15-11-2-4.<\/p>\n
Matt Marantz got the Chiefs seventh goal of the game at 6:04 of the third period and Tyler Vanscourt scored at 12:43 of the third to make it 8-1 Chiefs. Brassart and Mort had the assists on Marantz’s goal and Brassart and Vandane had the assists on Vanscourt’s goal.<\/p>\n
Charles Wells scored with the T-Birds down two men at 19:26 of the third to get the T-Birds second goal. A Spokane player lost control of the puck in front of his net on the break out and Wells jumped on it. He beat Reid with a quick snap shot for his ninth goal of the year.<\/p>\n
Salmon stopped 15 of 17 shots in the third period.<\/p>\n
Reid made 13 saves on 15 shots and his record is now 21-7-2-1.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
