Islamic Center of Kent <\/a>will present an open house on Saturday, Jan. 23 at the Kent Senior Center to help give people a better understanding about the religion of Islam.<\/p>\n<\/p>\nThe seminar runs from 3-7 p.m. at the Senior Center, 600 E. Smith St. Three Imams (leaders) of Mesajid in Redmond, Bellevue and Kent will be the main speakers. Their topics include What is Islam?; Venture Islam beyond the headlines; and Islam 101.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The purpose of the seminar is, \u201cTo delve deeper into the religion of Islam to have a better understanding about the truth and dispel any myths our friends may have; to engage in a lively discussion about the teachings of Islam and media portrayal to come to a common understanding; and to facilitate the audience to ask questions that they may have.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Kent Mayor Suzette Cooke and other officials are expected to be among the guests.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Islamic Center of Kent serves more than 500 Muslim families in the Kent, Auburn, Renton and Federal Way area. These Muslims comprise of wide range of ethnic backgrounds including Middle Eastern, Somalis, African Americans, Afgani, Pakistani, Turkish, Fiji, Indian and others.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
