They’ve been the walking wounded all season long.

Last Thursday night at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup, however, the Kent-Meridian football team finally played closed to a 100 percent. And the results showed as much.

Behind big performances from quarterback David Jones and bulldozing running back Va’A Logotala, the Royals delivered their finest performance of the season, blowing past Emerald Ridge 25-0 in a South Puget Sound League crossover game.

Jones, who missed the last four weeks with a bruised foot and sprained ankle, ran for one touchdown and passed for another while Logotala rushed for 168 yards and another score, helping the Royals (1-9) end the season on a winning note.

“It feels pretty good,” said K-M coach Trevor Roberts. “It’s something our kids definitely deserved.”

During the season, 46 of the 67 players listed on K-M’s roster missed at least one game with an injury. Several of those 46 players missed more than one game.

“That explains our season right there,” Roberts said. “It was unbelievable. When we had our whole team, we were very, very competitive.”

Against Emerald Ridge, the Royals were more than just competitive. They were downright dominant.

Jones got things going in the first quarter with a 10-yard touchdown run, giving the Royals an instant 7-0 lead.

Logotala added a 2-yard touchdown run in the second quarter that was followed with a 19-yard touchdown pass from Jones to Larren Wright, pushing K-M’s lead to 19-0.

Chaz Fuiamaono capped K-M’s offensive night with a 5-yard touchdown run.

Entering the night, the fewest points the Royals had allowed in a game all season came in the regular-season finale, when they held Kentridge to 27.

• Spanaway Lake 32, Kentlake 14: Kentlake’s Tyler Wright scored on a 55-yard touchdown and Tayler Guiberson recovered a fumble in the end zone for another touchdown, but that’s all the Falcons (4-6) could muster in a season-ending SPSL crossover game.
