{"id":18977,"date":"2016-01-18T09:28:06","date_gmt":"2016-01-18T17:28:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spiken.wpengine.com\/news\/early-morning-arson-fire-damages-horizon-elementary-kent-regional-fire-authority\/"},"modified":"2016-10-21T14:15:27","modified_gmt":"2016-10-21T21:15:27","slug":"early-morning-arson-fire-damages-horizon-elementary-kent-regional-fire-authority","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kentreporter.com\/news\/early-morning-arson-fire-damages-horizon-elementary-kent-regional-fire-authority\/","title":{"rendered":"Early morning arson fire damages Horizon Elementary | Kent Regional Fire Authority"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><p><strong>Reporter staff<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Smoke and fire damaged a\u00a0classroom at Horizon Elementary early Monday morning after someone broke into the school and ignited paper products, according to the Kent Regional Fire Authority.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Firefighters from the Fire Authority responded with Kent Police and Kent School District security at 2:45 a.m., after they received intruder alerts and a fire alarm from the school,\u00a027641 144th Ave. SE, Kent.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>The first fire units found a classroom with smoke from a burning bookshelf that contained children\u2019s schoolwork. Although the fire was quickly extinguished, smoke damage had extended throughout the classroom and into the common area of the school.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>There is no school today due to the Martin Luther King holiday.
