Kent Police arrested a man for investigation of fourth-degree assault after he allegedly smashed his mother-in-law’s face into a dresser when she tried to break up a dispute between he and his wife.

The wife called 911 at about 5:25 a.m. Sept. 13 to report that her husband had assaulted her mother at a home in the 25300 block of 121st Place Southeast and then fled the scene, according to the police report.

Officers noted that the mother-in-law had a swollen, red knot on her forehead.

The husband reportedly was upset at first that his wife had not ironed his work uniform. He then accused her of spending time with her “lover.” The couple had argued for the previous two days about the wife’s social networking account.

The mother-in-law, who lives with the couple, heard the argument and started to argue with her son-in-law about why he was talking to her daughter like that when the man allegedly grabbed her by the shoulders and shoved her face into a dresser before he left the home.

Police arrested the man later that day at his workplace in Seattle.

Pursuit

Police cited a man for investigation of reckless driving, failure to stop and cooperate with an officer and driving with a revoked license after a pursuit of the man reached speeds of an estimated 70 mph in a 35 mph zone along Southeast 240th Street on the East Hill.

An officer in a marked patrol car saw the man racing west in a Cadillac Escalade on Southeast 240th Street at about 7:04 p.m. Sept. 14, according to the police report.

The driver made an abrupt lane change, looked over at the officer and slowed to the speed limit. The officer followed the vehicle into an apartment complex parking lot along Southeast 240th Street and activated the patrol’s car emergency lights.

But the driver did not stop and eventually returned to Southeast 240th Street and headed eastbound. Another officer began to pursue the vehicle from 108th Avenue Southeast to 116th Avenue Southeast before a patrol sergeant called off the pursuit because of other traffic in the area.

Officers ran the license plate and contacted the registered owner in Yakima. The woman told police that her son and a friend had taken the vehicle to the Seattle area to sell it. Police discovered that the son also was a registered owner and report that he was driving the vehicle in Kent.

Officers were unable to find the vehicle or the driver but cited him through the mail.

Assault

Officers arrested a man for investigation of fourth-degree assault after he reportedly threw a table that hit his wife’s leg during a dispute at about 10:37 p.m. Sept. 14 at a house in the 700 block of Second Avenue South.

The wife told officers they had a dispute about the affair he had been having for the past year, according to the police report. The woman had a bruise on her leg.

The husband told police they argued about a woman he had impregnated and that he nudged the table with his leg out of frustration and the table fell on his wife. He denied that he intentionally tried to hit her with the table.

Theft

Police arrested a women for investigation of third-degree theft after she reportedly took a fifth of strawberry vodka at about 1:29 p.m. Sept. 16 from a liquor store in the 25800 block of 104th Avenue Southeast.

Officers also arrested the woman for obstructing justice after she allegedly gave a false name, according to the police report.

The woman admitted to officers that she took the bottle by placing it in her purse and leaving the store without paying. Officers stopped the woman at a nearby restaurant parking lot.

The store manager gave police a copy of the video from store cameras that caught the woman taking the vodka.
