Kent Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding an early Tuesday morning disturbance at an East Hill home where officers arrived to find three residents detaining a 31-year-old Kent man, who was seriously injured in a fight with the residents.

Officers were called at about 2:11 a.m. to a house in the 22800 block of 103rd Avenue Southeast, according to a Kent Police media release. The residents, all males in their late teens and early 20s, told officers that the Kent man was part of a group of men that had forced their way into their home.

They told officers that three unknown men arrived outside their home during the early morning hours. One of the residents confronted the men in the front yard. A fight started, during which the three assailants reportedly forced their way into the house.

The fight continued inside. When it was over, the residents had detained one of the alleged assailants and recovered two guns, while two other assailants had fled.

“There are a number of factors still to be resolved before we will be ready to present this case to (King County) prosecutors,” said Kent Police Sgt. Pat Lowery.

Once police complete the investigation, they’ll send the case to prosecutors for consideration of charges, Lowery said.

Police do not believe the home or its occupants were randomly targeted.

The man detained by the residents sustained significant injuries to his head and torso. He was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment, where he remained Wednesday. He is being treated for a series of facial fractures and internal injuries, Lowery said. He has not been charged with any crime at this time.

As a part of their investigation, detectives hope to re-interview the injured man sometime in the next few days, once his condition has improved.

“There are many questions that still need to be answered,” Lowery said.

All three residents of the home were uninjured. No property was taken.

Police continue to search for two men who reportedly fled the scene. Both are described as black males. One is described as having a large build, standing 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing 250 pounds. No additional information is available about the other man.

Detectives are reviewing statements, evidence and other information in an effort to identify the others persons involved, as well as the motive for the fight and home invasion.
