Two Kentlake high school students were arrested by King County Sheriff’s deputies for bringing a gun to school today.

Multiple classmates reported to school administrators that the students, males 16 and 17 years old, had spoken about having a gun.The students allegedly showed the gun off to other students.

Deputies responded and contacted the 16 and 17 year old males in a classroom. The 16-year-old had the gun concealed in his backpack, which was reportedly given to him by the 17-year-old.

The 17-year-old told police he had taken the gun from his aunt’s house without her knowledge when he visited her in Eastern Washington recently. Both boys are currently being detained and deputies will contact Youth Services to see if the boys meet the requirements for booking.

Kentlake administrators used an autodial system to call parents with a message about the incident.

“Initial investigation leads us to conclude the gun was never used to injure, threaten, or harass any students or staff,” said the autodial message.

A letter will also be sent home to parents, school district officials reported to the media.

There were no reports of threats made by either subject. It is unclear at this time why the gun was brought to school.
