For the Reporter<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Jolene Adams, president of the American Rose Society (ARS), makes two presentations on Sunday, March 1 at the Kent Library, 212 Second Ave. N.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The presentations, free to the public, begin at 1 p.m. and conclude at 4. The Rainy Rose Society and Heritage Roses Northwest co-host the event.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Adams is a well-known horticultural judge and rosarian throughout the world. She has been invited to judge international rose trials in Tokyo, South Africa, England, New Zealand, Scotland and the United States. These rose trials continue for several years while the roses are critically judged by a strict list of standards for their performance.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Adams’ credentials include being a master rosarian as well as a master gardener.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n In addition to being ARS president, Adams is co-vice president for North America for the World Federation of Rose Societies. She has been awarded three bronze honor medals by local rose societies in which she served and the silver honor medal for the Northern California\/Nevada\/Hawaii District of the American Rose Society.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Adams is a highly respected rosarian who grows 150 roses at her own home in Hayward, Calif. These roses include climbers, old garden roses, miniatures and minifloras, hybrid teas, grandifloras, floribundas, polyanthas, austins, romanticas and modern and classic shrubs.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Her topics for the afternoon will include a presentation on old garden roses and one on rose botany and nutrition.
