Two international students who attend Green River College were named to the All-Washington Academic Team.

Stanley Victorio of Indonesia and Seiya Yamaguchi of Japan were honored at ceremony on March 24 at South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia to recognize the 66 students from the state’s 34 community and technical colleges on the academic team.

Students are nominated for All-Washington recognition through a state program patterned after the national All-USA Academic Team, initiated by Phi Theta Kappa ⏤ the international honor society for two-year colleges. The program acknowledges students who demonstrate a commitment to success in the classroom and service in their communities.

Each All-Washington Academic Team member receives a $250 scholarship and is a state nominee for the All-USA Community College Academic Team, which is announced in April.

After finishing his studies at Green River, Victorio plans to transfer to Texas A&M University to get a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering. He wants to earn a doctorate and work for NASA. He became interested in spacecraft and outer space after watching video of NASA rocket launch.

Yamaguchi studies commercial aviation at Green River. He plans to become a commercial airline pilot. Yamaguchi has been interested in airplanes since he was a child. His grandfather shared stories about working in an aircraft factory and often took Yamaguchi to a nearby airport to watch airplanes take off and land.
