Kent-Meridian High’s Chloe Watson has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Eastern Washington University.

Watson, an outside hitter who played varsity all four years for the Royals, led the South Puget Sound League North with 54 aces her senior season. She tallied more than 300 kills this fall and is the all-time kill leader for K-M, according to head coach Michael Christiansen.

“Chloe is an exceptional athlete, a better student and an even better person,” Christiansen said in an email. “She is the type of athlete that you don’t get to coach that often.”

Eastern Washington’s interim volleyball coach Lisa Westlake said in a press release she has high expectations for Watson.

“Chloe is a dynamic outside hitter,” Westlake said. “We are looking forward to her bringing some depth and power to our outside attack.”

Watson, who is 5 feet 8 inches tall, was named the SPSL North MVP. Her strength and power as a hitter should allow her to get considerable playing time, Westlake said.

“We have watched Chloe compete since she was a freshman, and believe she has the ability to come in and make an immediate impact on our team,” Westlake said. “We are losing one of our top outside hitters in senior Cora Kellerman, and while we have a couple returners who will challenge her for it, we expect Chloe to compete for a starting spot next season.”

Watson is also an exceptional track athlete for the Royals.
