For the Reporter<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Kent business owner and community leader Gwen Allen-Carston recently was recognized for her work.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n The Seattle Medium newspaper and Kris Bennett Broadcasting presented the 2015 Black Press Trailblazer\/Role Model Award to Allen-Carston, executive director of the Kent Black Action Commission. She was named to the list of 50 impactful women in the Pacific Northwest.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u201cTo be honored by your own people and organizations, such as the Black Press and Kris Bennett Broadcasting, is one of the greatest achievements of my time,\u201d Allen-Carston said. \u201cI am vested and invested in the black community in Kent, the state of Washington and across this world. Whatever service I have been blessed to give is a direct reflection of who, as I understand it, I am and what I am meant to do. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u201cI look forward to continuing my assignment as a trailblazer, helper, giver and advocate for the people.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Allen-Carston, owner of C&G Hair and Beauty Supply, has been active in her role with KBAC, an organization that promotes the social, political, economic, spiritual and educational conditions of the local black community and the South King County region.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n
