Kent Police arrested nine drivers for investigation of driving under the influence on two nights as part of a recent crackdown by law enforcement throughout the state.<\/p>\n

Police arrested seven drivers for DUI on Aug. 29 and two on Aug. 14, according to the Kent Police. Officers emphasized the patrols between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m.<\/p>\n

Officers stopped 52 drivers on Aug. 29 and 40 on Aug. 14. Other citations issued over the two dates included 13 for uninsured motorists, eight for speeding, seven for suspended licenses and five for seatbelt warnings.<\/p>\n

The extra patrols were funded by a grant from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.<\/p>\n

In King County, 628 drivers were arrested for investigation of DUI between Aug. 14 and Sept. 7 as part of the Drive Hammered, Get Nailed campaign.<\/p>\n

Law enforcement agencies throughout the state arrested 2,818 drivers for DUI.<\/p>\n

There were 251 impaired-driver-involved deaths last year in the state, nearly half of the 522 deaths on state roads, according to the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
