Is anyone else getting fed up with all of the ads on the radio that entreat us to take advantage of “our right” to pay less than what we owe on our credit cards?

Does anyone else find it upsetting that people are being encouraged to charge beyond their means and then weasel their way out of paying the bulk of their credit-card bills?

Who do you think makes up the difference, when someone only pays for part of their bill?

Time and time again I hear these ads that describe the bill collectors as sinister jerks, when the only reason that they exist is because there are so many deadbeats that think they deserve more than they can afford.

Is it any wonder that our economy is in the toilet and a goodly portion of the 30- and 40-year-olds have come home to leech off of their parents?

What happened to good old-fashioned common sense and taking responsibility for spending more than you make?

Since when is it wrong for a business to expect to get paid, when you sign on the dotted line and promise to pay?

And, for that matter, I’m trying to remember back, when a person’s word was their bond and that it was something that was expected.

Businesses, whether large or small, take a great financial risk to stock their shelves, pay out for insurance, taxes, wages and benefits for their employees.

They are people with hopes, dreams and families – just like you and me. Just when did it become acceptable that our desires are more important than theirs?

No, I don’t own a business, am not a bill collector and have nothing to gain by writing this. However, those of you who owe money on your accounts do have something to gain by paying your bills – self respect.

We, as a country, are being lured into a sewer of spoiled arrogance that’s getting so deep that we’re not going to be able to reach the sides to pull ourselves out, if we keep it up.

The saying, “the ends justify the means,” has become the norm, rather than something of shame.

Our current government is not the problem, but is a mere reflection of the morality of the bulk of our nation.

If you don’t like where we’re headed, then see if your fingerprints are on the reins.
