The race for the South Puget Sound League North Division baseball title became a bit clearer last week.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s the race for the division\u2019s No. 4 seed that remains very much up in the air.<\/p>\n
Kentlake (9-1 in league, 13-2 overall) and Tahoma (9-1, 12-3) firmly cemented themselves as the top two teams last week, as both posted a pair of victories.<\/p>\n
The Falcons picked up a 5-4 win against Decatur on Wednesday, then sealed at least one of the four playoff berths with a 7-4 victory against Kentwood on Friday. Kentlake\u2019s Marcus Evans collected three hits and three RBIs against the Conquerors, and Miles Nagel added two hits, including a home run.<\/p>\n
Tahoma remained step for step with the Falcons, knocking off Kentridge on consecutive days, winning 14-3 on Thursday and 9-8 on Friday. Tahoma\u2019s Cory Ferguson helped the Bears put the game away with a third-inning grand slam.<\/p>\n
And while Tahoma and Kentlake already have clinched postsesaon positions, Kentridge (4-6, 5-9) and Kentwood (3-7, 5-10) entered this week on the outside looking in. Jefferson (7-3, 11-5) had a one-game cushion over fourth-place Federal Way (6-4, 6-8) when the week began.<\/p>\n
Kentridge ultimately holds its destiny in its hands. The Chargers played host to Decatur (1-8, 2-10) on Tuesday (results unavailable) and are at Federal Way today before a showdown with Kentwood at Kent Memorial Park on Friday. The Chargers finish the season on April 28 at Kentlake, making this week\u2019s slate of games that much more critical.<\/p>\n
Though Federal Way had a two-game cushion over Kentridge to begin this week, the Eagles still had to play the league\u2019s top three teams: Tahoma (Tuesday), Kentlake (Friday) and Jefferson next Monday. Add it up, and Wednesday\u2019s Federal Way-Kentridge showdown could have plenty of playoff implications.<\/p>\n
At three games off the pace entering the week, Kentwood finds itself in a slightly more precarious position than the Chargers with Jefferson on Tuesday, Decatur today before Friday\u2019s game against Kentridge.<\/p>\n
