As early-morning Latter-day Saints Seminary celebrates it\u2019s 60th year,\u00a0 25 students from Kent will received a\u00a0 four-year seminary diploma in addition to the their high school diploma.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Sunday, June 13, students from high schools in Kent and some from Auburn Mountain View will receive a diploma from the seminary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The program is taught before school starts in the early morning hours. Most of the classes start at 6:15 a.m. with a zero hour beginning at 5:30 a.m.. The students meet everyday that school is taught.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The course of study for the seminary is the scriptures. Each year the course covers one of the bodies of scriptures, Old Testament, New Testament, Book of Mormon, and church history\/doctrine and covenants.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Among the graduates are seven with perfect attendance. Eight received a seminary pin for this year\u2019s studies. The requirement for the pin includes; memorizing 25 of the scripture mastery scriptures, 90 percent attendance and memorizing the names of the current leaders of the church. Four of the students received the consecutive reading award for consistent personal daily scripture study. Ten received an award for memorizing the 25 scripture mastery scriptures for this year and four received an award for memorizing all 100 scripture mastery scriptures that come from all four years course of study.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Anna Price of Kent is the supervisor of the program. The seminary program is administered through the church education system of he Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Price along with 10 teachers and an assistant, Kara Brewer, are all are volunteers. This years teachers were: Lesia Binning, Chris Broadbent, Renae Call, Margaret Gunnell, Raylene Harris, Char Kibbie, Jenny Lund, Kyle Sumpter, Robert Wagner, Kurtis Willden.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
There were 129 students attending seminary in Kent. This school year marks the 60 year that early-morning seminary has been offered to students around the world. Each year 217,000 students attend early-morning seminary. Seminary is taught in every state in the United States and in 140 countries around the world. (See article below)<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Students graduating this year are:\u00a0 Kristin Bailey, Amy Wilkes, Guy Brewer, Sarah Jones, Stephen Gurr, Danelle Matthews, Kayla Dale, Blake Johnson, Brady Johnson, Kaylani Pula, Benjamin Ralph, Sara Seuferling, Rebecca Kozy, Sarah Trasnier, Shad Hall, Jared Fuller, Laura Nielsen, Karsten Kutterer, Amanda Olsen, Jazmyn Glines, Garrison Ulrich, Jared Lewis, Imani Obbanya and Braden Wanner. Those receiving one year certificates are Jackie Okullu and Christina Carr. Brandon Hosey is receiving a five year certificate.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
