With the slogan “Let’s make our mark – and cover theirs!” serving as inspiration, service clubs and volunteer groups from throughout Kent will celebrate the arrival of spring this year by working to cover up graffiti around the city.

The third annual Service Club Community Pride Day runs from 9 a.m. to noon March 19 at various sites. The graffiti paint-out event is co-sponsored by the Kent Police Department and Kent Parks and Recreation – Community Services Division.

The goal of the program is to curb vandalism by identifying and eliminating graffiti, while keeping Kent clean, beautiful and safe for residents and visitors alike.

This year, clean up teams from local Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs, boys and girls scouting groups, and service clubs from Kent area high schools will join together in the effort. Volunteers will meet at Town Square Plaza in downtown Kent. Refreshments will be provided by the downtown Kent Starbucks while teams are assembled, then sent to assigned “hot spot” areas to paint over graffiti.

Supplies and paint for the graffiti eradication program are drawn from community donations including Ski’s Painting and The Home Depot Foundation. “This is an example of our residents and businesses working together for a better Kent community,” said Kent Police Public Education Specialist Sara Wood.
