Brandon Harris sat out Kent-Meridian’s final dual meet of the season to rest some aches and pains.

The rest apparently did Harris some good.

The Kent-Meridian junior uncorked the best mark in the long jump (22-08.25) and the second best mark in the triple jump (45-08.50) during last week’s meet.

Harris was one-and-done in the long jump as well, earning a district berth with his first attempt before taking a seat.

“He only took one jump, that’s it,” said Kent-Meridian coach Ernie Ammons. “He has been beat up a little bit. He hit the board right on the button. All he wanted to do was qualify for district, and he got it right away.”

While Harris owned the long jump, several Royals dominated the pole vault, especially senior Thomas Reinhart.

Reinhart tied teammate Keenan Komoto and Thomas Jefferson’s Matt Barner with the top mark of the meet, reaching 13-feet even. Reinhart was awarded the top spot after hitting the mark on his first attempt.

“He made all the right heights at the right time,” Ammons said. “He had a couple really good days in practice. I think it finally all clicked with Thomas.”

The 13-foot mark is a personal best for Reinhart.

Kent-Meridian’s Nick Lemmon also found himself right in the mix, clearing 12-6 to earn a district berth. Reinhart, Komoto and Lemmon made up three of the top four marks in the event.

Meanwhile, pole vaulter Kelsey Bueno continued her ascension, winning the event with a 12-foot performance.
