Tickets for the Kent Arts Commission’s 2013-2014 Spotlight Series are on sale now. The performing arts series brings exceptional entertainment to Kent. The upcoming season begins Sept. 20 and runs through April. It features nine performances.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
THE LINEUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Late Nite Catechism: Sister’s Summer School In the latest installment of the sinfully funny Late Nite Catechism series, Sister is not happy. The diocese has decided to offer a summer school catechism course for students who weren’t paying attention all year. Instead of three relaxing weeks at the motherhouse, Sister is stuck with her students this summer.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n “Crazy in Love with Patsy Cline” Lavay Smith and her all-star seven-piece jazz band deliver a loving and creative tribute to country darling Patsy Cline. They bring a bluesy jolt of energy to the jazz\/country crossroads, delivering jazz and blues-steeped arrangements of Cline’s songs.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n “Malama Ko Aloha” \u2013 Keola Beamer<\/strong> An evening of contemporary World music featuring master slack key guitarist Keola Beamer, Grammy Award-winning Native American flutist R. Carlos Nakai, hula dancer and instrumentalist Moanalani Beamer, and jazz pianist Geoffrey Keezer. The performance brings to the live stage the key elements of the 2012 PBS TV special, Keola Beamer: M\u0101lama Ko Aloha. Partial Funding from WESTAF, National Endowment for the Arts and Washington State Arts Commission<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Magical Strings 27th Annual Celtic Yuletide Concert<\/strong> The Boulding Family’s musical celebration of the holiday season is a treasured tradition featuring Celtic music, Irish dancing and storytelling.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n California Guitar Trio + Montreal Guitar Trio Featuring six virtuoso guitarists from four countries (Japan, Canada, Belgium, and US), California Guitar Trio and Montreal Guitar Trio unite into one unique six-by-six-string ensemble. Steel stringed-guitars blend naturally with nylon-stringed guitars on original compositions and new arrangements of progressive rock, world, jazz, and classical music. Partial Funding from WESTAF, National Endowment for the Arts and Washington State Arts Commission<\/p>\n<\/p>\n “Churchill” starring Edmund Shaff<\/strong> This powerful one-man play paints a fascinating portrait of one of history’s most powerful men. It is April of 1955 and Sir Winston Churchill agonizes in his wartime bunker below London whether to resign as Prime Minister. He reviews his eventful career, filled with history-changing events and people, glorious speeches, pithy comments, funny stories, and all the wit and wisdom that has made Churchill an imperishable legend.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n “Stuart Little” by Dallas Children’s Theater<\/strong> Based on the Award Winning Book by E.B. White, Stuart Little tells the story of a most unusual mouse and his ordinary New York family. Stuart’s life is a series of adventures and misadventures with a variety of colorful characters. All the charm, wisdom, and joy of the classic novel are brought to life as Stuart learns to survive in his super-sized world and discovers the true meaning of family, loyalty, and friendship.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Alpin Hong<\/strong> Back by popular demand, Alpin Hong returns to Kent after an overwhelmingly successful 2013 residency and concert. Alpin’s combination of humor, emotion and dazzling technique brings audiences of all ages to their feet. This year Alpin will build on his relationship with Kent School District students and incorporate them into his final performance.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Harlem Gospel Choir From the heart of Harlem in New York City, the Harlem Gospel Choir travels the world and is loved for its joyous, foot-stomping, hand-clapping blues, jazz, and gospel spirituals. They have performed for Nelson Mandela and Pope John Paul II, and have shared the stage with such legendary artists as Bono, Sinead O’Connor, Lyle Lovett, Diana Ross and many others.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n =====<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
