{"id":17070,"date":"2011-07-17T09:33:35","date_gmt":"2011-07-17T16:33:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spiken.wpengine.com\/news\/king-county-reorganizes-information-technology-services\/"},"modified":"2016-10-22T04:15:34","modified_gmt":"2016-10-22T11:15:34","slug":"king-county-reorganizes-information-technology-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kentreporter.com\/news\/king-county-reorganizes-information-technology-services\/","title":{"rendered":"King County reorganizes information technology services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kingcounty.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">King County<\/a> will reorganize information technology services in a plan proposed by King County Executive Dow Constantine and by the King County Council.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Under the reorganization, what was formerly known as the Office of Information Resource Management is now renamed the King County Department of Information Technology (KCIT) and includes all IT staff in executive branch departments. The new organization creates a central team of experts who will focus on staying current with emerging technologies, and implementing best practices with changing resources within county government.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Until recently, many departments and sections housed their own computer servers and IT resources within their work groups. As part of the reorganization, KCIT has moved 154 devices to the county\u2019s state-of-the-art data center \u2013 a climate-controlled and secure facility with redundant back-up \u2013 which reduces the county\u2019s\u00a0overall energy costs and opens up the vacated space for other uses.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>KCIT will also eliminate duplicate IT services that are currently provided at a department level and provide such innovations as cloud-based computing countywide.
