Nic Petan had four goals and Brad Ross had a hat trick to lead the Portland Winterhawks to an 11-3 win over the Seattle Thunderbirds Saturday at the ShoWare Center.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Seattle will face the Everett Silvertips at 5:05 p.m. today at the ShoWare Center in a game with significant playoff implications. The T-Birds are tied with the Prince George Cougars for ninth place in the Western Conference playoff standings. Seattle (22-43-1-1) is four points behind the eighth-place Victoria Royals with two games in hand. They are five points behind the seventh-place Silvertips with a game in hand.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Calvin Pickard broke the WHL record for career minutes played by a goalie seven minutes into the third period. The record was previously held by Kurtis Mucha, who played 13,708 minutes with the Winterhawks and Kamloops Blazers from 2005-2010. Pickard now has 13,721 career minutes played in 236 games with the T-Birds.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Braeden Laroque got the Thunderbirds on the board at 14:15 of the first. Shea Theodore and Branden Troock had the assists.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Seth Swenson scored Seattle’s second goal at 12:40 of the second period, to make the score 8-2. Luke Lockhart and Shea Theodore had the assists.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Connor Sanvido scored at 17:46 of the second to make the score 8-3. Luke Lockhart had the assist.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Cam Reid, Taylor Leier, and Brendan Leipsic also scored for the Winterhawks.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Portland (48-17-3-1) outshot Seattle 54-25 in the game.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Pickard made 42 saves on 52 shots and his record falls to 22-35-1-1. Daniel Cotton played 1:47 of the first period and made one save on two shots.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Portland goal Mac Carruth saved 18 out of 21 shots and his record improves to 42-15-0-2-0. Brendan Burke finished the game and saved all four shots he faced.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
