The Kent man shot to death Aug. 19 outside his apartment has been identified as Arnulfo Gomez-Vasquez, according to the Kent Police.

Police are looking for a suspect in connection with the death of Gomez-Vasquez, 27, at about 9:50 p.m. Aug. 19 at the Somerset Apartments in the 25600 block of 109th Avenue Southeast on the East Hill.

“At this time we have very little information to work from,” said Kent Police Lt. Pat Lowery in a Tuesday email. “We have several witnesses that saw a person in the area of the shooting immediately before and after the incident, however we’re still working to reconcile their accounts and descriptions.”

Detectives are still trying to determine the connection between the shooter and Gomez-Vasquez as well as the reason behind the shooting.

“We have no motive for the shooting at this time,” Lowery said.

Officers arrived at the apartment complex and found Gomez-Vasquez wounded in the parking lot outside of his apartment with a single gunshot wound in the torso, according to a Kent Police media release. He was unconscious and not breathing.

Paramedics were unsuccessful in their efforts to revive Gomez-Vasquez, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives have interviewed the victim’s family members and other witnesses to find about information about the suspect. Police have not yet released any description of the suspect.

Relatives and friends of Gomez-Vasquez have been very helpful in working with detectives, Lowery said.

“This does not appear to be a random act of violence nor is there any indication of gang ties,” said Kent Police Sgt. Jarod Kasner.

Police are asking anyone with information about the case to call the Kent Police Tip Line at 253-856-5808.
