Fire heavily damaged a two-story duplex and killed two cats Thursday morning in Kent.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The fire broke out at about 8:30 a.m. at a duplex in the 10900 block of Southeast 250th Court on the East Hill, according to a Kent Fire Department media release.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Two residents were displaced because of the fire. No one was home when the fire started.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire and do not yet have a damage estimate.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Firefighters from Kent and the Valley Regional Fire Authority of Auburn worked to keep the fire from spreading to other portions of the duplex. One duplex had extensive damage while the other half of the duplex was slightly damaged as fire spread through the attic. It is unclear if residents of the other half of the duplex will need to move out.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Two cats died from smoke exposure. Two other cats were rescued and returned to their owners.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
