Her active community work includes her longtime support of the Republican party and the boating industry, notably with the Carver Cruisers Yacht Club and Northwestern Boating Council.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>She operated an accounting service for 20 years.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Longthorpe, who belongs to one of the oldest families from Germany, served as one of her country&#8217;s first radar officers during World War II. She met her first husband, an American soldier, during the war and came stateside. Longthorpe eventually moved to the Northwest.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>She and her second husband, Paul, raised four children.
