Kent firefighters put out a fire at a duplex early Friday morning in the 900 block of Fourth Avenue North.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
A neighbor reported smoke and a cracking sound at about 12:54 a.m., according to a Kent Fire Department Regional Fire Authority media release. Nobody was home when the fire broke out.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
An electrical failure in the garage caused the accidental fire, said Kyle Ohashi, spokesman for the Kent Fire Department. It isn’t possible to give a more exact cause because of the amount of damage, he said.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Firefighters arrived to find fire and smoke coming from the first floor of the two-story duplex and extending into the second story.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Firefighters changed the incident-type to a working residential fire which brings in additional fire units and support personnel. They immediately began attacking the fire from the outside to knock it down until other resources arrived.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Once inside the structure two searches were done in the home to look for victims while the firefighting efforts continued. No one was found in the structure. Nobody was injured.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the home where it started and protected the other attached residence from damage.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
In addition to firefighters from Kent, a ladder truck from the Valley Regional Fire Authority, King County Medic One and the Zone 3 Fire Explorers also responded to the call.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
