The Kent Black Action Commission <\/a>presented a daylong event Saturday at the Kent Senior Center.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cLaunching a Legacy: A Community that Cares\u201d began at 10 a.m. and wrapped up at 10 p.m. with a host of speakers and activities.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The gathering was free and well attended.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Booths were set up and speakers discussed schools, mentoring, the homeless population, jobs and business ownership.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

In the afternoon session Barbara Phillips discussed the East Hill Community Network Council and need for mentors.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cOne thing is to get involved,\u201d Phillips said. \u201cCreate our own voice and get involved.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Jimmie James also spoke in the afternoon stating, \u201cThere comes a time when words are not enough. While we are sitting in a meeting someone is getting out of prison\u2026. someone is losing their job\u2026 It takes more than words.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Gwen Allen talked about how important the gathering was to her and the community. She said the event was a first step in bringing the community together and getting more people involved.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
