Groups wanted to run carousel

Kent city officials are looking for nonprofit groups to run the Morford Family Carousel this summer at Town Square Plaza, across from Kent Station.

The organizations recruit volunteers or staff to be onsite during hours of operation, which they may establish themselves.

“An organization can receive tremendous visibility and generate program funds through proceeds from carousel riders,” said Jeff Watling, city parks director.

He added that to be successful a substantial, dependable volunteer work force is essential.

Groups need to make at least a three-week commitment to running the carousel. City staff sets up the carousel, trains the operators and maintains it daily.

For more information, call Victoria Andrews, parks program coordinator, at 253-856-5113 or e-mail her at vandrews@ci.kent.wa.us.

Free parking at justice center

Drivers can continue to park for free at the Norm Maleng Regional Justice Center and James Street Park and Ride lot for events at the ShoWare Center now that King County and Kent city officials have reached a five-year reciprocal parking agreement.

Drivers headed to the justice center can use the city’s ShoWare Center parking lot for free as an overflow lot during the day.

People driving to the ShoWare Center can use the justice center garage or the county Park and Ride lot for evening or weekend events.
