Community leaders and supporters \u2013 about 70 strong \u2013\u00a0attended the Hope for Families fundraising event at the Golden Steer Steak ‘n Rib House on Dec. 4.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The event offered a free lunch for those who donated sleeping bags, jackets, gloves, hats, socks, cash or checks.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

More than 30 sleeping bags and blankets were donated to the Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission, according to event coordinator Sally Goodgion. Many of the items went to struggling families through the PTA clothing bank.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Other donations were distributed to other organizations in the area.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The event’s Christmas item dash brought in $2,200, and many stuffed animals were donated to the Kent Police Department.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The group was inspired and moved by the life stories of Ring Bol, from the Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission, and Louisa Campos, of Chick’s Place.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
