It appears the Indoor Football League won’t have a decision about the future of the Kent Predators until Monday or Tuesday.<\/p>\n
“We’re still working on this as we speak,” said IFL Commissioner Tommy Benizio in a phone interview Friday from league headquarters in Richmond, Va. “I remain optimistic that the team will continue, and be even stronger and more enthusiastic than they were in the past.”<\/p>\n
IFL officials are reviewing an ownership change that would return the team to Kent for a second season starting in February at the ShoWare Center. Benizio had hoped to reach a decision Friday about whether to approve the ownership change.<\/p>\n
“We might require more information and it could take another business day or two,” Benizio said.<\/p>\n
League meetings among owners start on Monday.<\/p>\n
“It’s a little helter-skelter around here,” Benizio said.<\/p>\n
The Predators are scheduled to open the season Feb. 25 at the ShoWare Center. They have seven home games scheduled for the 2011 season.<\/p>\n
Ken Moninski, the current owner of the Predators, has put the pro team up for sale. After a deal fell through last week to sell the Predators to the Michael Tuckman-led West Coast Sports of the Puget Sound area, Moninski found another interested group of buyers.<\/p>\n
Neither Moninski nor Benizio would reveal the names of the potential new owners.<\/p>\n
Benizio said league officials are reviewing the new owners to decide if they have the financial backing and business savvy to run the Predators.<\/p>\n
Tim Higgins, ShoWare Center general managers, said Friday he had not heard from the IFL about whether the ownership change had been approved.<\/p>\n
