An apparent dispute Monday in Kent between two babysitters led to an initial report of a child abduction but Kent Police say the child is safe.

At about 10:30 a.m., police received a report that a child allegedly had been abducted at gunpoint from the child’s babysitter, according to an email from Kent Police Assistant Chief Pat Lowery.

“The most recent update from our staff at the scene confirms that this is not a child abduction,” Lowery said. “Per the child’s mother, the child is OK to be with the woman that took him. This situation appears to be a dispute between the child’s two babysitters.

“We presently have detectives interviewing the reporting party in an effort to determine what the scope of their confrontation was and whether there was actually a weapon involved in that part of the story. No one was hurt in this incident and we are now in contact with the second babysitter and the child. There is presently no concern that the child might be endangered and we hope to resolve the rest of the incident once we’ve interviewed both women.”
