Reporter staff<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Information about the Kent School District is now accessible through a mobile app.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n “Our choice to go mobile aligns with our commitment to increase parent engagement,” said Thuan Nguyen, the district’s chief information and digital strategy officer. “Enabling our families to connect with district and school information in real-time, at their convenience, will increase both communication and collaboration within the KSD community.”<\/p>\n<\/p>\n App features include:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u2022\u00a0District and school news, allowing the user to select which schools and district news feeds they want to subscribe to<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u2022 Push notifications for the district or school to send out instant alerts to the user’s mobile device<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u2022Calendar information for school, athletic and district events, including the ability to add events from school calendars to the user’s device calendar<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u2022 School and district directories and maps<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u2022 Contact information for teachers, administrators and other staff<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u2022 Links to the district’s or school Facebook, Twitter and YouTube accounts<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u2022 Ability to be translated into nearly 70 languages<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The KSD mobile app is free for users and available for iPhone and Android devices.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Elsewhere<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n The Kent School District honored 40 education professionals for receiving national board certifications at a school board meeting April 22. National Board Certified Teachers are nationally recognized as being among the best teachers in the profession and they comprise approximately three percent of the national teaching force.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n In addition to honoring 36 teachers and school counselors, four educational staff associates were recognized for achieving national certification. ESAs include speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, school psychologists, physical therapists and nurses. This certification process is consistent with the process that NBCT teachers complete involving combinations of coursework, supervised practicum experiences, and national examinations.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n As of November 2014, the Kent School District is fifth in the state for the number of new national certified educators, and the state ranks first in the country.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The Kent School district partners with the Kent Education Association to provide support for teachers choosing to pursue the National Board certification process.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The new National Board Certified Teachers are Julie Badgley, Ellen Bonnard, Brenda Bottorff, Amanda Broxon, Scott Cleary, Emily Coleman, Brennah Corrigan, Tracy Crutchfield, Megan Domoszlay, Kristina Duffy, Gayle Fiedorczyk, Kristy Glover, Kristy Gomez, Natalie Hill, Becky Keene, Jacklyn Kellogg, Lisa Kelly, Jinna Lee, Holli Loghry, Corey McMillan, Daniel Meade, Sandee Mendrysa, Laura Mroos, Kristin Nielsen, Dana Piehl, Susan Pinkerton, Michael Robinett, Anne Schmidt, Janis Siesser, Cindy Singer, Meghan Terwillegar, Jay Thornton, Brian Upchurch, Selina Ward, Daniel Woods<\/strong> and Carlee Wyatt<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n School nurses Hannah Ridge<\/strong> and Carrie Wright<\/strong>, occupational therapist Robin Bender<\/strong> and speech language pathologist Sara Hershcopf <\/strong>achieved national certification in their fields. …<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Local students from Highline College recently earned honorable mention honors in the school’s 2015 Student Poetry Contest. Among them were Shari Douglass<\/strong> of Auburn for “The Question,” Rebecca Judkins<\/strong> of Kent for “Winter Blossom,” and Hector Rendon-Garcia<\/strong> of Kent for “The Woman with the Red Obi.” Daylen A.
