Malicious mischief

A tow-truck driver got a big surprise when the truck he started to hook up for a tow sped off March 28 at an apartment complex in the 10900 block of Southeast 255th Place.

Kent Police arrested a man – the driver of the getaway truck – for investigation of malicious mischief. The man reportedly damaged a chain and cable the tow-truck driver had attached to the vehicle.

The tow driver told police he responded to a call from apartment security to remove a vehicle parked illegally on the lawn of the complex.

When he got to the scene, the driver of the illegally parked truck began to negotiate a release fee with the tow driver. But apparently having a change of heart, the man got back in his vehicle and drove away at a high speed.

Security personnel caught up with the truck driver near the 24400 block of 94th Avenue South. A security officer used a Taser gun on the man after he began to approach the officer with his hands in his pockets and would not stop moving forward. Police arrived a short time later to take the man into custody.

Robbery

A woman told police that a man pushed her to the ground and robbed her of cash at about 5:30 a.m. March 27 near 64th Avenue South and West Meeker Street.

The woman said she walked southbound on 64th Avenue when a man who said he knew her boyfriend asked her for $5, according to the report. She told the man she would give him the money and pulled out a wad of cash from her jeans pocket. That’s when the man grabbed the cash out of her hand and pushed her to the ground before running away.

The woman got up, chased the man and yelled at him. The man dropped most of the cash as he jumped a nearby fence into an apartment complex. The woman told police she had recovered most of her money, but $20 remained missing. Police closed the case because of a lack of suspect information.

Drugs

Police arrested a man for investigation of a felony warrant for sexual exploitation of a minor and possession of cocaine at about 3:40 p.m. March 27 in the 300 block of Railroad Avenue near the Kent transit station.

An officer saw a man get off a bus and recognized the man as someone he had arrested last year for sexual exploitation of a minor. The officer checked with the Kent Police records division and learned the man had a felony warrant. Police then escorted the man off another bus. When officers searched him, they reportedly found a pill bottle with crack cocaine inside. The man told police he had found the pill bottle near his mother’s home in Auburn.

Disorderly conduct

Police received a 911 call of a possible knife fight at about 5:30 p.m. March 30 during a homeless dinner at a church in the 300 block of Second Avenue South.

Officers arrested a man for investigation of disorderly conduct. The man reportedly was intoxicated and yelled and cursed at another man at the dinner before pulling out a small folding knife, according to reports. The other man walked away and the confrontation ended. Officers noted in the report that they recognized the man with the knife from previous incidents. They did not report what those previous incidents involved.
