Kent Police cited a 19-year-old man for investigation of fourth-degree assault and interfering with the reporting of a domestic-violence case after he reportedly attacked his girlfriend at 10:16 p.m. Feb. 19 at an apartment in the 25800 block of 110th Avenue Southeast.

The woman, 18, told officers that she had broken up with the man about two weeks ago, but he returned to the apartment to pick up a television and a couple other items, according to the police report.

The man came back into the house and told the woman in her bedroom that he did not want to move out of the apartment. He reportedly pushed her to the floor and jammed his knee into her side.

The man then took the woman’s cell phone, grabbed her by the hair and ripped out a braid of hair from the base of her neck. The woman managed to run outside the apartment before he reportedly caught up to her, punched her and threw her to the ground before fleeing the apartment in a white Cadillac.

The woman told police she is about seven weeks pregnant with the man’s child.

Motorcycle pursuit

A Kent Police officer in an unmarked car pursued a motorcycle for a short distance at about 2:40 p.m. Feb. 18 along 116th Avenue Southeast before the officer ended the pursuit when another vehicle collided with his car.

The officer had run the license plate of a motorcycle he spotted traveling northbound on 116th Avenue Southeast, discovering it had been reported stolen.

The officer activated the lights and siren on his car and began pursuit. The motorcyclist initially started to slow down, but then accelerated up to about 55 mph along 116th Avenue Southeast.

Two cars were stopped at the intersection of 116th Avenue and Southeast 223rd Street. The motorcycle moved to the right shoulder to pass the cars while the police officer moved into the southbound lanes of 116th.

A van started to make a left turn onto South 223rd and collided with the front right passenger door of the police car as it tried to move past the van. The officer stopped his car and the pursuit. The motorcycle sped away.

Neither the woman driver of the van nor the officer was injured in the minor collision. The woman told officers she saw the motorcycle to the right, but did not see or hear the police car to her left.

Drugs

Police cited a 47-year-old man for investigation of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana after they saw the man sitting at a city park bench at about 7:30 p.m. Feb. 16 near First Avenue South and West Titus Street.

The bicycle officers told the man the park had closed at dusk and he needed to leave, according to the police report.

One of the officers noticed the man had a clenched fist and saw him try to toss away a broken glass pipe used for smoking marijuana. Police also reportedly found in the man’s backpack a pill bottle with about 0.1 grams of marijuana inside the bottle.

The man told police he did not want to talk about the glass pipe or the pill bottle.

Theft

Police arrested a 50-year-old man for investigation of third-degree theft after he reportedly took beer and sunglasses at about 11:40 a.m. Feb. 16 from a convenience store in the 8300 block of South 212th Street.

Officers stopped the man as he was walking a short distance from the store after a call about a theft from the store identified a possible suspect, according to the police report.

Police found a 22-ounce can of beer and a pair of sunglasses, with purchase tags still attached, inside the front of the man’s shirt. He also had beer in his backpack.

The clerk confirmed the beer had been taken from the store. The clerk gave officers store-camera photos of the man taking the beer.

The man declined to talk to officers about the beer or the sunglasses.
