For the Reporter<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Dr. Susan Hollinsworth, DDS, of Kent, was recently installed as chair of the Washington Section of the American College of Dentists.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The ACD is the oldest major honorary organization for dentists. Founded in 1920, it has been regarded as the “conscience of dentistry” and has come to epitomize ethics and professionalism.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Fellowship is by invitation only to those dentists who have exemplified excellence through outstanding leadership and exceptional contributions to dentistry and to society. Selection is accomplished using a confidential peer review process that evaluates each candidate. Only about 3.5 percent of dentists are Fellows of the ACD.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Hollinsworth was inducted into the fellowship in 2006.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Hollinsworth was among the first female dental graduates of the University of Washington School of Dentistry. She opened her family and cosmetic dental practice on the Kent East Hill in 1978 and cherishes the long-term relationships and community ties she has developed over the years.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n “My goal from the beginning has been to overcome people’s fears and negative images of dentistry,” she said. “My greatest satisfaction comes from helping people get healthier and feel good about their smile.”<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Hollinsworth volunteers her services in many different capacities, helping those who cannot afford dental care as well as mentoring students. She is an affiliate professor with the UW School of Dentistry, serves on the Dean’s Club board, and has endowed a scholarship to help a dental student.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n In recognition of her leadership and service, she has also received fellowship in two other major honor societies: Pierre Fauchard Academy and the International College of Dentists.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Hollinsworth also is active here in Kent.
